Getting Your Las Vegas Marriage License
Getting married in Las Vegas is refreshingly simple when it comes to the paperwork. Here's everything you need to know straight from someone who has witnessed this process hundreds of times.
Before the Ceremony: You must obtain your marriage license before the ceremony takes place. Both people getting married must be present in person at a Clark County Marriage License Bureau location. Bring valid photo ID β you will both sign your paperwork at the bureau at the time of issuance. There is a fee due at that time. No waiting period, no blood test, no advance appointment required.
Marriage License Fee: $102.00
The White Envelope: Once issued, your license comes inside a white envelope containing all the paperwork you need. My biggest piece of advice β leave everything inside that envelope and hand it directly to your officiant on your wedding day. Don't remove anything. The officiant knows exactly what to do with it.
On Your Wedding Day: Your officiant handles everything from there. They will complete the remaining paperwork and collect a witness signature β printed, not signed. After your ceremony your officiant has 10 days to file the document with the county.
Your Display Certificate: On your wedding day you will receive a decorative display certificate β this is a keepsake, not a legal document. For any official purposes like name changes you will need to order a certified copy after your license has been recorded.
The Pink Sheet: Inside your white envelope there is a pink sheet β hold onto this. It contains the information you need to locate your recorded document online and order your official certified copy once it has been filed.
Need It Right Away? Some officiants offer an expedited service for an additional fee. They will pay to have your document recorded immediately and return with your certified copy the same day. Ask your officiant in advance if this is something you need.
Changing Your Name? If you plan to change your name, start with your certified copy in hand. Take it to your local Social Security office first to update your Social Security card, then head to the DMV to update your driver's license. Doing it in that order makes the process much smoother.
