Destinations — Outdoor Wedding & Elopement Locations Near Las Vegas
Las Vegas is surrounded by some of the most dramatic natural landscapes in the American Southwest — and most couples have no idea how close they are. Within an hour of the Strip you can exchange vows against red rock formations, mountain pines, desert ghost towns, and sweeping valley views. Outdoor ceremonies work best as intimate elopements — just the two of you, an officiant, a witness, and a photographer. Adding guests and seating to an outdoor setting is logistically challenging and may require additional permits and coordination. But for elopements? These locations are unmatched.
Note: Nevada State Parks require commercial use permits for professional photography and ceremonies. The permit cost is worth it — you get a better quality, protected setting in return. I can help guide you through what's needed for your chosen location.
Red Rock Canyon Approximately 30 minutes west of the Las Vegas Strip
Red Rock Canyon is one of the most photographed landscapes in Nevada for good reason. The towering sandstone formations and desert terrain create a dramatic natural backdrop that no studio could replicate. I've done ceremonies just past the Red Rock Canyon entrance — continuing down the road takes you deeper into the landscape and away from the crowds, opening up more intimate and private settings for your ceremony and portraits.
Red Rock Canyon Photography and wedding permits need to be acquired in advance through the Bureau of Land Management. Weddings are allowed at the Red Spring Picnic Area and the Red Rock Overlook. Contact them directly:

Valley of Fire State Park Approximately 1 hour northeast of the Las Vegas Strip
If Red Rock Canyon is stunning, Valley of Fire takes it a step further. In my opinion it's even more dramatic — the deep red and orange rock formations are unlike anything else in the region. I've done portrait sessions here and the images speak for themselves. It's worth the extra drive. Valley of Fire is one of those locations that photographs better than you can even imagine standing in it.
The Valley of Fire only issues permits to select commercial wedding providers. Couples must work with authorized providers to get married there. I currently do not have the permit required, but plan to obtain it in the future. For now, I cannot provide service at this location.
Mount Charleston Approximately 45 minutes northwest of the Las Vegas Strip
Mount Charleston is Las Vegas's best kept secret for couples who want something completely different. The drive up starts with classic Mojave desert scenery and transforms into a full mountain landscape — pine trees, elevation, and during the right season, snow. It genuinely feels like Colorado, just 45 minutes from the Strip.
I grew up camping on this mountain and know it well. Some of my favorite spots for photos and ceremonies include:
Lee Meadows — open and serene with beautiful natural framing
Deer Creek — intimate and tucked away
Cathedral Rock Picnic Area — dramatic natural rock formations with mountain views
Mahogany Grove Group Campground — spacious and versatile for small gatherings
Mount Charleston is a genuinely special option for couples who want four season variety — a winter snow ceremony on this mountain is something truly memorable.
Mount Charleston Mount Charleston falls under the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. For commercial photography and ceremonies contact the Las Vegas Ranger District directly:

Nelson's Ghost Town Approximately 45 minutes southeast of the Las Vegas Strip
Nelson's Ghost Town is unlike any other wedding location in the Las Vegas area. Part desert landscape, part open air museum — the property is filled with vintage cars, weathered buildings, and remnants of the past including an old chapel on site. The photographic possibilities here are genuinely endless. If you and your partner have a creative, unconventional, or adventurous spirit this location will deliver images that look like nothing else.
Nelson's Ghost Town Nelson's Ghost Town is privately owned by Eldorado Canyon Mine Tours. Photography and wedding permission is handled directly by calling (702) 291-0026. There is a photography fee for both professionals and non-professionals. No online permit system — just a phone call.

A Little Tip for Budget Conscious Couples 😉 Just past the Red Rock Canyon entrance, continue down the scenic loop road for about 10 more minutes. You'll find a side road that leads toward the old Bonnie Springs area. That first stretch of road offers a beautiful mountain backdrop for a small intimate ceremony — without the state park permit requirement. It's a little known alternative that delivers stunning results. Consider it a local secret from a Las Vegas native.
